Minnesota 3, Los Angeles 1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kirill Kaprizov made his long-awaited National Hockey League debut, giving the Minnesota Wild an immediate boost. Kaprizov scored his first goal with 1:13 remaining in regulation to lead the Wild to a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night.
The 23-year-old Russian, whom the Wild drafted in the fifth round in 2015, was a point-a-game player for the past three seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League. Kaprizov, who had nine game-winning goals last season, scored soon after Los Angeles took its first lead.
Ryan Suter scored his first goal in 10 months on the first shot of the game and Zach Parise added another just 2:57 later. The Wild broke a seven-game losing streak that started on Feb. 23.
Cal Petersen made 32 saves for the Kings. Matt Roy scored the lone Los Angeles goal.
The Wild opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period. Suter One-Timed a shot in off the skate of Kings defenseman Mikey Anderson after Mats Zuccarello found him unmarked. Parise followed up with a one-timer from the slot after a pass from Kirill Kaprizov just 2:57 later.
Los Angeles finally scored for the first time in three games at Xcel Energy Center to cut the deficit in half. With the goalie pulled and the Kings on a power play, Roy One-Timed a pass from Drew Doughty to make it 2-1.
But Kaprizov sealed the win late in the third period. He took a pass from Victor Rask and ended the game with a quick wrist shot past Petersen.
The Wild outshot the Kings 35-26.
